When are the people going up on Monday going up on Monday? Is there a deadline for my arrival? I really can't leave until early Monday afternoon. I've got my $75 check and a credit card in my billfold as I type.
Writing this post from my phone...hope it works. When you check in, you'll just need to give your name. Remember that you'll need a credit card.

I can't believe TIE is already here. See you on Monday or Tuesday!

Jill

W E L C O letter M KMcElman_090516_E3

I'm so glad that you'll be able to attend some of the Technology in Education conference. If you can't find the information you need on this blog, or via links on this blog, feel free to comment or send a text message.

Skyline folks: Our new teacher-librarian, Jill, will be at Copper Mountain for part of the conference. Jill, if you are able, we are thinking of getting together, in my yet unknown condo location, on Tuesday evening -- probably anytime after that last session gets out, 5 p.m.-ish. We'll probably just have munchies and a light dinner.

I'll give you more details on Monday, at the CASL pre-conference. I look forward to meeting you!

Get Together

I don't think we've been particularly successful in planning the Italian dinner. The idea is officially scrapped. Probably for the best since we really don't know what kind of kitchenware is available and we don't know what our time looks like.

But, I would like for all of us to get together one evening. Let's just make this casual and easy. Bring something to share and we'll get together (perhaps on Tuesday evening -- we can map out all the sessions we plan on attending) at my condo. As soon as I know which building I'll be in, I'll post it here, on the blog.

To start the ball rolling, here's my contribution for the get together: Nachos with salsa and guacamole.

Any takers?

Change of Cost for Extra Night

The price for an additional night has changed from $50 to $75. Marcie won't be attending TIE, so the per person cost has changed.

John, please confirm ASAP if you still want to try for the extra night with the increased cost. My contact said that there is availability, but that it could move the reservation to another building. Right now, you and Ben are in Copper One (although there are no guarantees).

Directions to Copper Mountain

Longmont to Copper Mountain

Total Estimated Time: 1 hour 55 minutes
Total Estimated Distance: 110.94 miles

Also, once you get to Copper Mountain, here is a map of the Village. Note: June 23rd, 7:00 AM Noon Registration - Guest Services at the Mountain Adventure Center (will move to the Copper Pavilion after lunch)

Am I able to go up on Monday?

Hi, Myra,

I haven't heard from you since my e-mail on the 11th. Were you able to swing my arriving on Monday afternoon? The last post was yours on the 12th, and it didn't say. Let me know.

The Blog

I think the blog is a great idea. My problem has been no access to a computer while I was out of town. It's good to have a phone number to leave a TXT message or call when that's the only option.

I'll be in Taos this week - hopefully with an internet connection and working computer. I'll try to read at least every-other day

Reservations Confirmed

I didn't hear from anyone else as to whether they wanted to go up a day early. Linda confirmed two weeks ago and submitted her $50. It's too time consuming to email or call everyone individually about everything, so that is why I set up this collaborative blog for everyone to communicate, ask questions, and check our status.

Our condos have been confirmed as of last week. If you still want for me to try to extend the reservation, I need to know TODAY, June 12. I believe that it is too late to try to get the extra night, but I will try. If I am successful, you can give me your check when we get there.

So far, only three people have offered to help with a potluck. Let us know if you may want to do that, or not. Otherwise, we'll just scrap the idea. I think the blog was well-intentioned, but not frequented or used as an effective communication method. I'll keep checking it should you have any questions, leave any comments, or would like to plan anything as a group at TIE.

If people are still interested in carpooling, please make your offers or arrangement here. Linda and I will be carpooling early on the 22nd. Laurel offered to drive on the 23rd, if anyone is interested. Here's the link to the contact info.

Hope everyone is having a great June. They start the abatement at Skyline on Monday, so it begins... The building is inaccessible, for any reason, until July 15th. Hope you have everything you need!

See you in eleven days!

17 Days and Counting! Time to...

Confirm if you are going up a day early. I'll need $50 from each person ASAP. You can send it to the school, or drop it by, to the attention of Melissa Chambers. Be sure to add a note that it is for "additional night at TIE" and the check made out to Skyline High School.

Linda has so kindly offered to drive and will be leaving early on the 22nd. Be sure to add a comment if you are interested in going up then. Please start adding comments to this post, or add a new post, with your intentions for travel and date of arrival. The next two weeks will fly by.

Questions were posed on what to bring...

Clothing -- It will be warm during the day and very cool at night. I'd recommend a jacket, umbrella or raincoat (depending on the forecast), and layered clothing. It will get hot, too. Some of the session rooms were uncomfortably warm. And, of course, comfortable shoes. If you are the "get up early for a run"-type, the trails and walking paths are beautiful in the morning. Some people take their mountain bikes up with them.

Hardware -- I brought my laptop, ipod, cell, power strip, Flip digital camcorder, a basket full of chargers and cables, microphone/webcam, headphones, and padfolio (an organizer for all the handouts.) Basically, I take an entire A/V studio with me wherever I go. Be sure to take a flashdrive -- many presenters don't have everything uploaded to the TIE site, but will give you their presentation files, support files, and handouts.

I take all my notes on Google Docs -- saves time, paper, and bulk. If you will be using Google Docs (not shsfalcons), you may want to download Google Gears so your notes will auto-update should you not have wireless in any session. If you don't know what that is, ask me when we are in Copper. I bring my personal laptop; last year, some people brought their school laptops and were unable to download anything that needed access to the hard drive.

Food -- I admit...I'm cheap (I like to call it frugal) and bring all my food. There's a few meals provided, but we are on our own the rest of the time. I bring fruit, beverages, coffee/cream, breakfast items, and things to make easily for quick dinners (lunches are provided.) I do like to bring a bottle of wine and a six-pack of a Belgian wheat for viewing incredible sunsets from the deck. Hey...this is a vacation and an opportunity for some reflection, right?

Is anyone interested in an Italian potluck one of the evenings (Tuesday or Wednesday)? I'm thinking about making a cioppino and homemade gnocchi w/ lemon garlic sauce and/or a fresh tomato basil sauce. If so, here's the place to add your contribution for the dinner. We'll need the usual fare: insalata and/or antipasti, primo e secondi corso (meat and pasta), pane (bread), and some sort of dolce finale. Depending on what you like, I think that a complementary vino is in order, too...at least a couple of bottles. Generally, the kitchens are equipped with tableware, dishware, and cookware. They also have coffee pots.

If it is okay with everyone, I'd like to invite the new District Director of Instructional Technology to our potluck. ...a good way to welcome him to SVVSD, create a connection, and covertly bend his ear on what technology support is needed in the trenches. I would also like to extend an invitation to the new teacher librarian for Skyline (can't give any details yet) -- she won't be able to attend TIE, but may consider a dinner invitation. She'll be in Keystone during that time. Anyone else?

Next post idea? ...talking about the sessions we plan to attend? ...finalize the carpooling. ...just chatter about nothing in particular?
